Five checks before interpretation
- 1
Provenance: Is the plotted file an official export, a selected subset, a simulation or an editorial teaching table?
- 2
Schema: Write each field, unit and missing-value rule. Check whether an axis is logarithmic, inverted or normalized.
- 3
Transformation: Record binning, smoothing, color mapping and formulas between downloaded values and marks.
- 4
Uncertainty: Look for error bars, calibration limits, selection effects and omitted observations.
- 5
Claim: State only the pattern supported by the supplied data, then name external evidence needed for the physical explanation.
